Madden 27 rebuilt contracts around the new Persona Engine, and the negotiation now plays out as a live conversation with two meters running: Interest and Patience. So when you open a deal and both meters say N/A, it feels like a wall. It usually is not.

What N/A on the meters is telling you
Interest and Patience are live negotiation meters. They only carry a value once you are actually in a negotiation the player is willing to have. When they read N/A, the game has no live read to show yet, which almost always means the re-sign scenario for that player has not opened.
You do not have to guess whether that is the case. Open the player’s Mindset and Persona DNA panel and read the mindset line.

His Persona DNA also frames how the talk will go once it opens. Booker reads as Reliable, Grounded, Principled, Serious, and Guarded, with a Love Of The Game focus. A guarded, principled veteran is not a player you nudge with a lowball opener, which matters the moment his meters go live.
Check the current contract before you assume it is a bug
People see N/A and assume the old rule still applies: wait for the player to show interest in the current contract negotiations or wait until the final contract year. Madden 27 loosened that renegotiation timeline. You can now negotiate extensions before a player reaches the last year of his deal, so a locked option is about the scenario, not the calendar.

Bottom line: N/A meters plus a “will reach out soon” mindset means wait. Keep advancing the week. When his scenario fires, open the deal again and the meters will populate with a real Interest and Patience read you can move.
When the meters go live, play to the dealbreakers
Once you are in a real negotiation, the Dealbreakers panel tells you where the player will and will not bend. Each item carries a priority, and the red ones are where a weak number ends the conversation fast.

Bonus: Critical
Total Contract ValueCritical
Playoff ContenderHigh
Contract LengthModerate
Read that as a plan. Lead with a strong bonus and a fair total value to build Interest, since those are Critical. Trade on length, which is only Moderate to him, to protect your cap. With $114M in room here, the constraint is his priorities, not your wallet.
So can you re-negotiate after getting denied?
Usually yes, but every attempt costs you. Withdrawing a contract and re-entering a negotiation now decrements both Interest and Patience, so a “denial” is often a warning that you are burning the player’s goodwill rather than a locked door. Spam re-entries and you will drain Patience to zero, and that is when the window genuinely closes.
Where it becomes a true dead end: if Patience bottoms out, or talks fully collapse, the player can hold out or publicly demand a trade. At that point you are not re-signing him at the table, you are managing damage.
The playbook
- Meters read N/A? Check the mindset line before doing anything else.
- “Will reach out soon” means wait and advance the week until his scenario changes.
- Do not force an offer into N/A meters. There is no live read to move.
- Once live, open the Dealbreakers panel and lead with the Critical items.
- Spend on what he values, save cap on what he rates Moderate.
- Do not spam withdraw-and-reoffer. Each re-entry drops Interest and Patience.
- Watch Patience. Empty it and you risk a holdout or a trade demand.
- When in doubt, use the Franchise Tag during the “Resign Players” window of the off season.
